The Ministry of Industries has finalized a comprehensive National Electric Vehicle (NEV) policy aimed at transforming Pakistan’s transportation landscape. After consultations with key stakeholders, the draft has been submitted to the Prime Minister and will proceed to the federal cabinet for final approval.

The proposed policy sets an ambitious goal: by 2030, over 30% of all new vehicles sold in Pakistan will be electric. To support this transition, the government plans to offer financial incentives, including a Rs. 50,000 subsidy for each electric motorcycle and Rs. 200,000 for every electric rickshaw. A dedicated fund of Rs. 4 billion has been reserved for these subsidies.

Additionally, the policy focuses on building EV infrastructure nationwide, including the installation of charging stations. A recent meeting chaired by SAPM Haroon Akhtar Khan explored further innovations such as converting fuel-powered bikes to electric. The initiative underscores Pakistan’s commitment to sustainable mobility.
