Pakistan and Cambodia signed a TPO agreement to boost trade, advance PTA talks, and expand cooperation in AI, ICT, aviation, and agriculture.
Pakistan and Cambodia signed an agreement between their trade promotion organisations (TPOs) on Wednesday, concluding the second meeting of the Joint Trade Committee (JTC) in Islamabad.
The agreement was signed by Commerce Minister Jam Kamal and Cambodia’s Minister of Commerce Cham Nimul, who co-chaired the session. Both sides reviewed trade progress and explored new opportunities to expand bilateral economic ties.
While noting steady growth in trade volumes, Pakistan highlighted significant untapped potential in market access, investment and sectoral collaboration. Islamabad reaffirmed its commitment to advancing discussions on a Preferential Trade Agreement (PTA) aimed at diversifying trade portfolios and improving access to regional markets.
Pakistan identified export potential in rice, pharmaceuticals, textiles and agricultural goods, while Cambodia pointed to opportunities in cassava, cashew nuts, footwear and rubber products. Both countries agreed to enhance direct business-to-business engagement.
The Board of Investment presented opportunities in energy, IT, tourism and infrastructure, positioning Pakistan as a gateway to Central Asia. Cambodia, meanwhile, promoted its Special Economic Zones and new investment law as entry points for Pakistani businesses targeting ASEAN and RCEP markets.
The two nations also agreed to deepen cooperation in aviation, agriculture, ICT, artificial intelligence, cybersecurity and vocational training.
