Pakistan and Saudi Arabia have agreed to broaden cooperation in the mining and minerals sector after talks between Petroleum Minister Ali Pervaiz Malik and Saudi Minister of Industry and Mineral Resources بندر إبراهيم الخريف Bandar Alkhorayef at the Future Minerals Forum in Riyadh.
According to the petroleum ministry, Alkhorayef stressed the “vast opportunities” for partnership and assured that Saudi Arabia would share knowledge and technical expertise to help strengthen Pakistan’s mining industry. Malik added that “fertilizer production and medical devices manufacturing sectors also present important opportunities for joint ventures.”
Malik is leading Pakistan’s delegation at FMF 2026, which runs from January 13–15 and is expected to attract around 20,000 participants from more than 160 countries. Thirteen Pakistani companies are showcasing projects at the summit.
Saudi Arabia has positioned itself as a global leader in sustainable mining and green technologies, while Pakistan is preparing to host its own Mineral Investment Forum this year. Officials say Pakistan’s location in the mineral-rich Tethyan Belt, including the Reko Diq copper-gold project expected to begin production by 2028, highlights the country’s potential to attract significant foreign investment.
