Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar led a senior-level government meeting to evaluate Pakistan’s progress in strengthening its economic and commercial relationship with the European Union.
During the session, Dar described the EU as a key trading partner and underlined the importance of the GSP Plus scheme in maintaining preferential access for Pakistani exports. “Pakistan has successfully completed four review cycles under GSP Plus, and we remain fully committed to meeting every requirement of the framework,” he said, adding that continued compliance would help unlock further trade opportunities.
The meeting was attended by Law and Justice Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar, Special Assistant to the Prime Minister Tariq Bajwa, Foreign Secretary Ambassador Amna Baloch, along with senior officials from the ministries of commerce, interior, overseas Pakistanis and human rights. Pakistan’s envoy to the EU and provincial representatives also took part.
GSP Plus allows eligible developing countries to export most goods to the EU without customs duties, provided they uphold international standards related to human rights, labour protections, the environment and governance.
Separately, EU Ambassador Raimundas Karoblis recently met Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, where both sides agreed to further strengthen cooperation across trade, investment, development, security, migration and climate action.
