Pakistan has reiterated its commitment to deeper economic cooperation within the Developing-8 group, which involves member states fully implementing the D-8 Preferential Trade Agreement, according to Commerce Minister Jam Kamal Khan. He stressed during the 4th D-8 Trade Ministerial Council meeting in Cairo that reducing tariffs and streamlining procedures hold the key to opening substantial market access and unlocking more intra-bloc trade.
Kamal underlined the PTA as an essential tool for strengthening regional integration and said that Pakistan was ready to resolve operational hurdles and harmonize documentation to make the agreement fully effective. He underlined that strong regional alliances would be very important in a global environment characterized by protectionism, supply chain instability, and climate-driven disruptions.
The minister also called for enhanced institutional mechanisms, including cooperation in customs, standards, logistics connectivity, and digital systems. He underlined the role of the private sector in leading growth, more joint ventures, technology partnerships, and B2B engagement across D-8 countries.
He identified major opportunities in sustainable development, food security, agriculture, textiles, and energy, adding that digital transformation through e-commerce and fintech-must lie at the heart of future collaboration. Kamal welcomed Azerbaijan as the bloc’s ninth member and said a more connected D-8 would mean stronger economic resilience and regional stability.
