Pakistan and Myanmar have initiated a renewed phase of diplomatic engagement following an official visit to Islamabad by Myanmar’s Foreign Minister Than Swe.
During the visit, Than Swe met with Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, where both sides focused on restarting formal cooperation after nearly a decade without senior-level exchanges. Officials said the meeting centred on building a practical framework to strengthen political dialogue, trade links, cultural engagement and development cooperation.
The two delegations also reviewed regional stability issues and agreed that peaceful solutions and diplomatic engagement remain the preferred approach to managing disputes. They discussed ways to improve coordination on humanitarian assistance and consular support, especially for citizens affected by cross-border crimes.
Both sides expressed interest in expanding educational, youth and cultural connections. Pakistan also highlighted the potential for cultural tourism linked to its historical heritage as a means to strengthen mutual understanding.
To ensure continuity, the foreign ministries of both countries signed an agreement establishing regular consultation mechanisms. Diplomats said the new framework is intended to keep communication active and advance long-term cooperation between the two nations.
