A Pakistan–China agricultural investment conference took place in Islamabad on Monday, with hundreds of companies from both countries participated. According to the Ministry of National Food Security and Research, the conference served as a platform to deepen cooperation and advance agricultural engagement between Islamabad and Beijing.
The ministry said that multiple memorandums of understanding were signed during the event, with participation expected from 115 Chinese and 165 Pakistani companies. Officials described the conference as part of broader efforts to strengthen economic collaboration beyond traditional sectors.
The event reflects a shift in Pakistan–China cooperation toward agriculture, industry and technology, building on the foundations of the China Pakistan Economic Corridor – CPEC. While the first phase of CPEC focused on transport infrastructure, energy projects and connectivity, both countries have in recent years moved toward a second phase aimed at diversification.
Agricultural cooperation under this framework has included discussions on technology transfer, export protocols and value chain development, with particular focus on livestock, mechanization and horticulture. Organisers said the conference bought together policymakers, investors, industry associations and agribusiness firms to explore investment opportunities, technology adoption and export expansion.
