OpenAI Warns ChatGPT Conversations Aren’t Confidential

OpenAI CEO Sam Altman just dropped the news on a podcast that your chats with ChatGPT aren’t covered by any legal privacy regulations. This means that if something ever goes wrong legally someday, those chats can be used in court against you.

Altman admitted that people, especially youth are using ChatGPT as some kind of life coach or guidance counselor. Other than the fact that there is no doctor-patient confidentiality involved here.

He also said that AI chat must be as confidential as talking with a physician or lawyer. But today? We’re in the Wild West of AI therapy.

So maybe don’t reveal your deepest secrets to ChatGPT yet. Or at least don’t name names.

We need legislation. We need boundaries. And most importantly, we need just to refrain from explaining AI as if it were the diary of our child.
