Lahore Electric Supply Company (LESCO) has launched a widespread smart metering initiative and safety enhancements across Lahore and nearby regions. The effort, targeting areas like Kasur, Okara, Sheikhupura, and Nankana Sahib, aims to combat electricity theft and improve service reliability.
High-theft zones are seeing the installation of scanning meters and aerial bundled cables to curb losses. Meanwhile, insulated conductors are being introduced in key areas like GOR, Cantt, Johar Town, and Gulberg, enhancing safety and preventing electrical hazards. To further reinforce this commitment, LESCO has established a Health, Safety, and Environment Directorate.
As part of its five-year plan, LESCO is rolling out 535,000 smart meters, 55,000 are already in place, helping recover billions in lost revenue and reducing inefficiencies. Infrastructure upgrades include seven new 132kV grid stations, transformer improvements, and extensive reconductoring efforts.
Additionally, the company is cracking down on corruption, taking disciplinary action against 1,400 officers for misconduct. Through these measures, LESCO is working toward a more efficient, secure, and theft-resistant power distribution system for its consumers.
