Pakistan together with the IFC – International Finance Corporation’s support is focusing on climate resilience planning to boost capacity, secure climate funds, and push for sustainable transport.
Jamie Fergusson, IFC’s Global Director for Climate, met with Romina Khursheed Alam, the PM’s climate coordinator, to discuss improving collaboration. The two agreed that Pakistan, despite its tiny carbon footprint, is taking the brunt of climate disasters and needs better access to climate financing. Alam made it clear – developing nations can’t tackle climate change without streamlined funding.
Aisha Humera Moriani, Secretary of the Ministry of Climate Change, spoke of electric vehicles—especially two-wheelers—as a solution in cutting emissions and clearing up urban air. The IFC delegation took note, showing interest in backing Pakistan’s green transport shift.
Fergusson praised Alam’s climate advocacy at #COP29 and restated the IFC’s support in navigating climate challenges. Both sides agreed that stronger partnerships with global financial institutions are required for real progress. The meeting wrapped up with a mutual commitment to keep the momentum going, and ensuring that Pakistan gets the resources and strategies needed to stay ahead of climate threats.
