Ministry of National Food Security and Research has proposed a Rs. 990 million project to promote smart farming technologies and enhance agricultural mechanisation in Pakistan.
The project, titled “Establishment of Digital and Precision Agriculture Mechanisation Facility,” will be implemented at the National Agricultural Research Centre by the Agricultural Engineering Institute in Islamabad over a five-year period from July 2026 to June 2031.
The initiative aims to accelerate the adoption of precision farming tools while supporting small farmers, local manufacturers and agri-based SMEs. It aligns with national development strategies, including the 5Es Framework and the 13th Five-Year Plan.
Under the project, key facilities such as design, prototyping and testing labs will be upgraded with advanced technologies, including 3D scanning, computer-aided design (CAD), CNC and laser systems.
The plan also includes the development of modern agricultural equipment powered by artificial intelligence, Internet of Things (IoT), drones and robotics, along with the establishment of a dedicated UAV and agricultural robotics facility.
At least five machine prototypes will be developed locally, while training programmes will be conducted for over 500 stakeholders, including farmers, researchers and industry players to promote adoption of modern farming practices.
