The federal government is now launching a new version of Pakistan Citizen Portal for Android users after the recent wave of technology disruptions. Users are experiencing constant crashes, as well as login and registration failures for the past three days which has added to the already existing frustration on not being able to access government services.
As per the Ministry of IT and Telecom Pakistan, the primary issues stem from ZIP certificate misconfigurations along with some bugs in the Android app’s code.
These issues not only caused SSL server connections to fail, but also destabilized the system as a whole, compromising its function of promoting transparency and accountability.
A solution to these issues has already been submitted to the Play Store in the form of a patched version, which is waiting for approval. The update is expected to bring full functionality once approved.
The ministry also clarified that the iOS app and web portal have remained fully operational during these disruptions, so they recommend suspended Android users to wait for the update using those platforms.
The said outage has been labeled as a temporary one, with government officials insisting that resolution is just around the corner: “We stress that functionality outside of Android is perfectly intact and the issue not only stems from a singular device but software, with recovery pending Play Store approval on the revision” .
