Finance Minister Senator Muhammad Aurangzeb held a meeting with a Visa delegation led by Tareq Muhmood, Regional President for Central Europe, Middle East and Africa, to review opportunities for expanding digital payments and supporting Pakistan’s reform agenda.
Aurangzeb welcomed Visa’s engagement with Pakistan’s financial sector and outlined progress achieved under the IMF-supported programme. He noted external validation from credit rating agencies and detailed reforms in taxation, energy, state-owned enterprises, debt management, and privatisation. “Our priority is to achieve sustainable and inclusive growth,” he said, stressing the government’s commitment to economic stabilisation.
The discussion also focused on accelerating Pakistan’s digital transformation. Aurangzeb explained that digitalisation is being driven at the highest level by the prime minister to ensure coordinated implementation across government.
He highlighted initiatives such as the creation of the Pakistan Digital Authority, reforms in payment systems under the State Bank of Pakistan, and efforts to digitise government receipts and expenditures. Both sides agreed that strengthening digital payments would enhance transparency, efficiency, and financial inclusion, aligning with Pakistan’s broader economic objectives.
