The NEPRA – National Electric Power Regulatory Authority has approved a revised tariff structure for electric vehicle charging stations (EVCS), allowing them to charge Rs23.57 per kilowatt-hour, along with a market-driven margin. This decision follows a review under NEPRA’s regulations in response to policy guidelines submitted by the federal government.

Under the new framework, EVCS will continue to be billed by distribution companies under the A-2(d) tariff, with no monthly fuel cost adjustments applied. The revised rate represents a 45% reduction from the previous base tariff of Rs45.55/kWh. After adjustments and taxes, the effective rate is expected to fall to Rs39.70/kWh, down from Rs71.10/kWh.

The decision has been sent to the federal government for notification in the official Gazette within 30 days. Should the government not act within this period, Nepra will proceed with the notification itself.

While the majority supported the revision
