Bestway Group has officially launched Geely Auto in Pakistan, introducing the EX2 electric hatchback, EX5 electric SUV, and Starray EM-i with range-extended EV technology. Through Bestway Automotive, the company will manage sales and after-sales services while focusing on localisation and charging infrastructure to support the growth of electric mobility in Pakistan.
Pakistan’s automotive industry is entering a new phase as Bestway Group officially introduces Chinese automaker Geely Auto to the local market, bringing three new electric and hybrid vehicles and plans for expanded local assembly and charging infrastructure.
The launch, held on Saturday, October 24, marks Geely’s entry into Pakistan through Bestway Automotive, its sole authorised distributor in the country. The move comes as automakers increasingly explore new energy vehicles, giving Pakistani consumers more alternatives to conventional petrol-powered cars.
A key part of the initiative is Bestway Group’s acquisition of the former Proton manufacturing plant at Port Qasim in Karachi. The facility is expected to serve as a base for vehicle assembly, supporting the company’s localisation plans and laying the groundwork for Geely’s long-term operations in Pakistan.
The launch introduces three models aimed at different segments of the market: the EX2 compact electric hatchback, the EX5 electric SUV, and the Starray EM-i, which uses range-extended electric vehicle technology. Together, the lineup offers consumers a mix of fully electric mobility and an alternative designed to address driving-range concerns.
Beyond vehicle sales, Bestway Automotive plans to develop after-sales services and supporting infrastructure to establish a stronger foothold in the market. Group Managing Director Irfan Sheikh said localisation and the development of a charging network would remain central to the company’s strategy, recognising that broader EV adoption depends on more than simply introducing new models.
The investment also builds on Bestway Group’s existing presence in Pakistan. The company stated that it has invested more than $350 million in the country and generated 20,000 jobs over the past three years, highlighting its contribution to economic activity and employment.
For Geely, Pakistan represents a significant regional opportunity. Vice President of Geely Auto International Corporation Evin Ye described the country as the company’s first market in South Asia, underlining its importance to the automaker’s expansion plans. Ye also highlighted Geely’s low-orbit satellite network as a distinctive technological capability.
Geely’s arrival adds another contender to Pakistan’s evolving electric and hybrid vehicle landscape. However, the long-term impact will depend on competitive pricing, accessible charging facilities, reliable after-sales support, and successful local production. Bestway’s investment sets the stage for that competition, as Pakistan’s automotive market gradually moves towards new energy mobility.
