Apple is expanding its parental control features with a new tool called “Permission Text,” aimed at bolstering child safety and giving parents more oversight over their children’s digital interactions. Announced at WWDC 2025, this upcoming iOS 18 feature enables children to request parental approval before sending or receiving certain content particularly images within messaging apps.

When a child tries to send or view a potentially sensitive photo, they will be prompted to send a Permission Text to their parent or guardian. The parent will then receive a notification and can decide whether to allow or block the content. This interactive safeguard empowers parents without compromising the child’s privacy or autonomy, striking a thoughtful balance between safety and independence.

This new functionality is part of Apple’s broader suite of child protection features, which already includes tools like Communication Safety, Screen Time, and Content Restrictions. By introducing “Permission Text,” Apple reinforces its commitment to proactive digital parenting and online safety, especially in an era where children are increasingly navigating digital platforms at younger ages. The feature is expected to launch with iOS 18 later this year, offering families a smarter, more collaborative way to manage children’s online experiences.
