Federal Minister for Planning Ahsan Iqbal Chaudhary has announced that Artificial Intelligence (AI) could contribute Rs24.9 trillion (USD 88.31 billion) to Pakistan’s economy by 2030. This growth would raise Pakistan’s projected GDP by nearly 15 percent. He made these remarks while launching the URAAN AI Techathon 1.0, organized by the Ministry of Planning Development and Special Initiatives
The Techathon, part of the Uraan Pakistan National Innovation Mission, is designed to involve youth and professionals in solving real-world challenges with AI. Ahsan Iqbal stressed that AI is not just the future, but already transforming industries like agriculture, manufacturing, healthcare, education, fintech, energy, and governance. For example, AI-powered precision farming could boost agricultural productivity by up to 30 percent, while automation in manufacturing and mining could improve efficiency by 25 percent.
He highlighted that Pakistan must choose whether to lead in this global AI revolution or remain dependent on others. To encourage participation, the government has launched a dedicated online portal for the Techathon, ensuring inclusivity from underserved regions. Globally, AI is expected to add nearly $20 trillion to the economy by 2030. “Pakistan will not remain a spectator in the AI revolution,” he affirmed.
