
Pakistan registered 5,241 new companies in September, with the information technology (IT) sector leading registrations with 920 companies, according to the Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan (SECP). The new registrations brought the country’s total number of registered companies to 317,002, with 99.9 percent completed online. The registrations also included 167 foreign investors, led by China with 113 investors, reflecting continued business activity and efforts to expand investment and economic opportunities.
Pakistan recorded 5,241 new company registrations in September, with information technology (IT) businesses accounting for the largest share, according to data released by the Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan (SECP). The latest additions increased the country’s total number of registered companies to 317,002, reflecting continued business activity across various industries.
The SECP reported that digital services played a central role in the registration process, with 99.9 percent of applications completed online. The regulator has been promoting digital registration to make it easier for entrepreneurs and investors to establish businesses.
The IT sector topped the list with 920 new companies, followed by trading with 808 registrations and services with 599. Construction added 339 companies, while food and tourism recorded 239 and 222 registrations, respectively. Real estate accounted for another 193 companies, alongside 189 in education, 179 in e-commerce and 127 in mining. An additional 1,426 companies were registered across other sectors.
Regarding business structures, private limited companies represented the largest category, with 3,013 registrations. Single-member companies accounted for 2,058, while 127 limited liability partnerships were established. The remaining registrations included 29 not-for-profit companies, 10 public companies, two trade organizations and two foreign companies.
Punjab remained the leading destination for company registrations, recording 2,740 new businesses. Islamabad followed with 1,009, while Sindh registered 790 companies. Khyber Pakhtunkhwa added 428, Gilgit-Baltistan recorded 169, and Balochistan accounted for 105 registrations.
Foreign participation also featured in the latest figures. A total of 167 investors from different countries were involved in company registrations during the month, including 113 from China, making Chinese investors the largest group among foreign participants.
SECP Chairman Dr. Kabir Ahmed Sidhu said that registering companies was an important step towards building a more structured economy. He added that the commission was working to simplify registration procedures to support business development and economic growth.
The strong performance of the IT sector comes as Pakistan seeks to increase technology exports, with the government targeting annual IT exports of $30 billion. Initiatives involving startups, artificial intelligence, cloud computing, digital skills and connectivity are expected to support this ambition.
The September figures highlight the growing importance of technology-driven enterprises in Pakistan’s economy, alongside continued business formation in traditional and emerging sectors. Simplified registration procedures and greater investor participation could further support entrepreneurship, employment generation and efforts to expand the country’s tax base.
