Punjab CM Maryam Nawaz has ordered a province-wide survey of dilapidated buildings after monsoon season while reviewing progress on development and drainage projects.
Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has ordered a survey of dilapidated buildings across every city in the province immediately after the monsoon season, while directing authorities to accelerate completion of Phase-I of the Punjab Development Programme (PDP).
The directives were issued during a meeting chaired by the chief minister to review progress on PDP projects across Punjab. Deputy commissioners from various districts participated in the meeting through video link, where officials presented updates on development schemes and infrastructure projects in several cities.
The chief minister directed authorities to prepare an impact study covering sewerage and drainage projects implemented under the development programme. She also ordered the preparation of a case study on Phase-I of the PDP and called for the compilation of public feedback to assess the programme’s impact.
Progress was reviewed on projects across cities including Vehari, Burewala, Tandlianwala, Jaranwala, Jalalpur Jattan, Sambrial, Muridke, Khudian, Kabirwala, Chak Jhumra, Bhalwal and Attock. Updates were also presented for projects in Kamalia, Toba Tek Singh, Gojra, Ali Pur Chattha, Chichawatni, Daska, Layyah, Sillanwali, Wazirabad, Bahawalnagar and Mailsi.
The meeting was further briefed on development work in Sahiwal, Faisalabad, Multan, Gujranwala, Sheikhupura, Nankana Sahib, Rawalpindi and Sialkot.
Officials informed the meeting that underground water storage tanks had become fully operational in 29 cities, while construction was underway in another 21 cities. The chief minister also noted improvements in drainage following the installation of new sewerage systems in several areas.
The review comes after Punjab experienced significant monsoon activity, placing pressure on urban drainage and sewerage infrastructure. Maryam Nawaz praised deputy commissioners, assistant commissioners, Water and Sanitation Agencies (WASA) and Suthra Punjab officials for their performance during the rainy season.
She also commended officers and other officials who worked during the monsoon to facilitate residents and manage related infrastructure challenges.
The planned survey of dilapidated buildings will be conducted after the monsoon season, covering cities across Punjab. The initiative is part of the government’s broader focus on assessing civic infrastructure and addressing development and public safety requirements.
The government is also continuing work under the Punjab Development Programme, with the chief minister directing authorities to complete Phase-I projects and document their outcomes through impact assessments, case studies and public feedback.
