Telenor Pakistan has formally been absorbed into Pakistan Telecommunication Mobile Limited (PTML), ending its status as an independent legal entity after completing a landmark merger with PTCL. The transaction ranks among the largest corporate consolidations in Pakistan’s telecommunications sector and brings the former Telenor business under the Ufone 5G brand.
Latest figures from the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) show the country had more than 206 million mobile subscribers at the end of May 2026. Jazz remains the market leader with a 36.42% share, followed by Zong at 26.62%, while the newly combined PTML now commands approximately 35.91% of the mobile subscriber market.
Company officials expect the integration process to trigger some customer movement in the coming months. A senior Ufone executive said,“This is because subscribers of both Telenor and Ufone are likely to switch their SIMs to other networks soon as the operations of the two companies are fully merged.” The official estimated that nearly four million customers from the merged subscriber base of around 74 million could migrate to competing operators.
Network consolidation is already underway after receiving the PTA’s technical approval. Customers in Karachi, Hyderabad, Faisalabad and several other cities are now connected through the same network infrastructure, while the migration of billing systems, SIM management and balance services will be introduced in later stages. Ufone has assured users that services will continue without disruption throughout the transition period.
PTCL said the merger combines Telenor Pakistan’s network assets, infrastructure and customer base with PTML, strengthening spectrum resources and expanding the company’s ability to invest in advanced digital services. PTCL President and CEO Hatem Bamatraf described the development as “This is a defining moment for our company and for Pakistan’s telecom industry.” He added,“As we come together as one company, our ambition is to bring our customers cutting-edge products and services that set a new benchmark for digital experience in Pakistan.”
