Engro has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Baidu to explore opportunities for collaboration in advancing artificial intelligence (AI) capabilities across Pakistan and the wider region. The agreement focuses on potential cooperation in AI infrastructure, research, talent development, and industry applications, with both organizations seeking to support the practical adoption of AI technologies across multiple sectors.
The partnership brings together Engro’s growing interest in digital infrastructure and technology-enabled solutions with Baidu’s expertise as a leading global AI company. Through this collaboration, the two organizations will examine ways to strengthen AI capabilities and contribute to the development of a broader technology ecosystem in the region. According to details shared by the companies, the collaboration will be supported through PaddlePaddle, Baidu’s deep learning framework. The platform will serve as the foundation for exploring a range of initiatives related to research, industrial innovation, workforce development, and operational integration.
One of the key areas under consideration is the establishment of Industrial Research Centres. These centres would provide access to a complete AI technology stack and support localized as well as regional research and development activities. The initiative is intended to facilitate innovation and encourage the development of AI-based solutions suited to local and regional needs.
The two organizations will also explore Intelligent Industry Workshops focused on practical AI applications within industrial and manufacturing value chains. These workshops will examine how artificial intelligence can be integrated into existing processes to improve operational efficiency and support technological advancement across industries.
Talent development is another major component of the proposed collaboration. Through specialized education programs and certification opportunities approved by China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT), the initiative aims to help develop AI-related skills and expand access to professional training. In addition, Engro and Baidu will explore the development of Operations and Service Centres designed to support the integration of AI into financial, industrial, and operational processes.
