Pakistan and Alibaba signed multiple AI, cloud, fintech, healthcare, and SME development agreements to accelerate digital transformation and economic growth.
Pakistan and Alibaba Group have signed a series of strategic Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) aimed at accelerating the country’s digital transformation through artificial intelligence, cloud computing, digital commerce, financial technology, healthcare innovation, and SME development.
The agreements were signed at Alibaba’s headquarters in Hangzhou, China, during Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s official visit to China. The signing ceremony was witnessed by Prime Minister Sharif and Alibaba Group Chairman Joe Tsai.
The partnerships bring together Pakistani organizations including Ignite National Technology Fund, SMEDA, and Sky47 with Alibaba Cloud, DAMO Academy, Alibaba.com, and Koko Tech. The collaboration is expected to strengthen Pakistan’s digital economy while creating new opportunities for businesses, students, entrepreneurs, and technology professionals.
A major component of the agreements focuses on artificial intelligence and cloud technologies. Ignite and Alibaba Cloud will work together to develop localized AI solutions, including foundation models for Urdu and regional languages. These technologies are expected to support key sectors such as education, healthcare, and agriculture.
The initiative also includes nationwide AI and cloud training programs targeting 500,000 individuals through certifications, workshops, and technical learning opportunities. Alibaba Cloud has continued expanding its global AI infrastructure through significant investments in cloud and artificial intelligence technologies.
The healthcare partnership between DAMO Academy and Sky47 will introduce AI-powered disease screening solutions in Pakistan. The technology uses advanced imaging systems to support early detection of critical illnesses, including liver and pancreatic cancers. Initial deployments are expected in major cities including Islamabad, Lahore, and Karachi.
To support Pakistan’s export sector, Alibaba.com and SMEDA will provide AI-driven digital trade training to 10,000 small and medium enterprises. The partnership will also facilitate the onboarding of at least 2,000 Pakistani businesses through a dedicated Pakistan Pavilion, enabling access to more than 50 million global buyers on Alibaba.com.
In the financial sector, Koko Tech plans to invest $3 million to expand Buy Now, Pay Later (BNPL) services across Pakistan. The initiative aims to improve financial inclusion, support digital commerce growth, and create new employment opportunities within the country’s expanding fintech ecosystem.
The agreements reflect growing Pakistan-China cooperation in technology and innovation and align with Pakistan’s broader vision of building a more connected, digitally empowered, and knowledge-driven economy.
