Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar will visit New York from May 26 to 28 to participate in a high-level United Nations Security Council (UNSC) open debate, the Foreign Office said on Monday.
The debate, titled “Maintenance of International Peace and Security: Upholding the Purposes and Principles of the UN Charter and Strengthening the UN-centred International System,” will take place on May 26 under China’s rotating presidency of the UNSC for May 2026.
According to the Foreign Office, the session will be chaired by Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi.
Pakistan welcomed the Chinese initiative, describing it as a timely effort to strengthen multilateralism and reinforce the role of the United Nations in addressing global challenges.
Dar will also attend a Group of Friends on Global Governance meeting on May 28 focused on reforming and improving global governance systems.
The Foreign Office said the foreign minister is expected to hold bilateral meetings with fellow foreign ministers and senior UN officials on the sidelines of the visit.
Dar is currently in Beijing alongside Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif during celebrations marking 75 years of diplomatic relations between Pakistan and China.
