PTA approves 21 new internet licenses; Zuma partners with Telna to launch global telecom and eSIM services, expanding Pakistan’s digital reach.
The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has approved 21 district-level internet licenses to enhance broadband coverage across Pakistan. This initiative, part of the Broadband Policy 2004, will begin on January 1, 2026, aiming to empower local entrepreneurs and improve connectivity in underserved regions. Each license, valid for ten years, allows operations within a single district, encouraging competition among smaller providers. The fee structure includes Rs. 20,000 for application processing, Rs. 300,000 for the initial license, and Rs. 100,000 annually, increasing by 10% each year. Licensees must start services within a year and provide at least 100 broadband connections. PTA received 62 applications, approving 21 so far.
In parallel, Zuma Resources Limited has entered a global telecom partnership with Telna North America Inc., gaining access to multi-IMSI infrastructure for eSIM, mobile data, voice, and roaming services. The agreement enables Zuma to launch a global telecom brand and expand into markets such as Europe and the UK. The three-year renewable deal supports scalable operations and recurring revenue streams. Zuma is also exploring a Mobile Virtual Network Operator license from PTA, signaling its intent to strengthen its presence in Pakistan’s digital and international telecom sectors.
