Punjab to offer free Google certifications to 100,000+ students, alongside IT labs, scholarships, and education reforms across colleges.
Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has approved free Google certification courses for more than 100,000 students across the province as part of efforts to enhance digital skills and standardise education.
Under the initiative, students will receive certifications without paying fees that typically range between $400 and $1,000. The programme will offer training in areas such as cyber security, artificial intelligence, business intelligence, and other short courses lasting three to six months.
The decision was taken during a meeting reviewing progress in the School Education and Higher Education departments. The chief minister also approved the establishment of modern IT laboratories in 166 government colleges and the provision of electric bus facilities for college students.
Authorities were directed to accelerate school improvement projects across multiple districts. The meeting also confirmed that 62,949 students will receive scholarships in a single tranche under the Honhaar Scholarship Programme, with further inclusion of special students in the next phase.
Additionally, 36 commerce colleges across 29 districts will be affiliated with 19 public universities to improve academic integration.
Officials said these initiatives aim to expand access to quality education, enhance digital capabilities, and improve institutional performance across Punjab.
