Punjab plans to expand insurance coverage through PLIC. The initiative targets underserved groups with tailored solutions.
The Government of Punjab plans to utilise the Punjab Life Insurance Company (PLIC) to strengthen the management of its social health insurance programmes and expand financial protection across the province.
According to the proposal, the company will support the broader objective of increasing insurance coverage, particularly under an “Insured Punjab” framework, aimed at improving penetration in a market where access remains limited.
PLIC is expected to introduce products tailored for underserved segments, including salaried individuals, small business owners, farmers, and daily wage earners. The initiative focuses on offering sustainable insurance solutions that can extend coverage to low-income and vulnerable populations.
In addition to health-related coverage, the company intends to gradually develop pension and annuity products, providing long-term financial security options for a wider segment of the population.
The move reflects the government’s effort to expand access to insurance services while building a more inclusive financial protection system within the province.
