PTA urges citizens to avoid sharing unverified or inflammatory content online, warning of legal action amid heightened geopolitical tensions.
The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) on Saturday issued a public advisory urging citizens to avoid sharing “unverified, inflammatory or misleading information” amid the prevailing sensitive national situation.
In its statement, the regulator advised social media users to act responsibly while using digital platforms and to refrain from disseminating rumours or fake news. It emphasized that citizens should only share information authenticated by official sources and avoid forwarding content that could harm public stability.
PTA cautioned that the circulation of false or misleading material may invite legal action in accordance with applicable laws. The authority called upon citizens to exercise caution, maturity and a strong sense of national responsibility to maintain public confidence during heightened geopolitical tensions.
The advisory comes in the backdrop of escalating tensions in the Middle East following reported attacks by Israel and the United States on Iran.
Separately, Pakistan’s armed forces continue operations under Operation Ghazab lil-Haq along the western border in response to cross-border incidents involving the Afghan Taliban. The situation has further underscored the importance of responsible digital communication and verified information sharing.
