Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has arrived in Vienna on a two day visit aimed at strengthening economic cooperation between Pakistan and Austria. The trip marks the first official visit by a Pakistani prime minister to Austria in more than thirty years.
The visit comes as the two countries mark seventy years of diplomatic relations. It is being held at the invitation of Austrian Chancellor Christian Stocker. The last such visit took place in 1992, when then prime minister Nawaz Sharif travelled to Austria.
The prime minister was accompanied by a high level delegation and was welcomed by Austrian officials at the Vienna airport. During the visit, he is expected to meet Chancellor Stocker to discuss trade, investment, and economic cooperation.
Prime Minister Sharif will also engage with leaders from the International Atomic Energy Agency, the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime, and the United Nations Industrial Development Organization. The discussions will focus on peaceful nuclear energy, counter narcotics efforts, crime control, and sustainable industrial development.
He is also scheduled to address the Pakistan Austria Business Forum and co chair a meeting with leading businessmen to promote investment between the two countries.
