Pakistan has officially assumed the chairmanship of the Digital Cooperation Organization (DCO) for the 2026–2027 term following the fifth DCO General Assembly held in Kuwait. Federal Minister for Information Technology and Telecommunication Shaza Fatima Khawaja formally took over the role, representing Pakistan at the high-level gathering attended by senior officials from 16 member states, including founding member Saudi Arabia.
Under Pakistan’s leadership, the DCO will prioritise digital inclusion, artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, and cross-border digital collaboration among member countries. Shaza Fatima Khawaja stated that Pakistan aims to ensure the benefits of digital growth reach youth, women, and underserved communities, aligning international cooperation with the country’s Digital Nation Pakistan vision.
The chairmanship places Pakistan at the centre of global digital policymaking, enabling it to shape discussions on emerging technologies, data governance, and digital economies. Pakistan will also host the next DCO General Assembly, offering an opportunity to showcase its progress in e-governance, IT exports, and digital infrastructure. The development reflects growing international confidence in Pakistan’s digital strategy and leadership capacity.
