The partnership between Pakistan and the European Union is strengthening again. During the seventh EU-Pakistan Strategic Dialogue in Brussels, both sides recommitted themselves to deeper cooperation across politics, trade, security, and development. The meeting was co-chaired by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar and EU High Representative Kaja Kallas, where they reviewed the progress achieved so far under the 2019 Strategic Engagement Plan.
Both parties agreed to increase cooperation in the areas of trade, migration management, human rights, and higher education-particularly through the Erasmus Mundus and Horizon Europe programs. Global challenges like food and energy security, climate change, and sustainable growth are prominently featured. Both parties reaffirmed that GSP+ is a central plank of EU-Pakistan trade relations.
Regional dynamics featured high in this. The EU updated Pakistan on the Russia-Ukraine conflict, while Pakistan pointed out that peaceful resolution of longstanding disputes-including Jammu and Kashmir-is essential. Both sides also reconfirmed support for a two-state solution in the Middle East and underlined the urgency of humanitarian access in Gaza.
The next round will be held in Islamabad.
