Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has launched INSPIRE, a national semiconductor initiative that will train 7,200 professionals in chip design, verification, and research over five years. The program marks a major step toward building Pakistan’s capacity in advanced technology and innovation.

Ministry of Planning Development and Special Initiatives has allocated Rs 4.5 billion for this program under the Public Sector Development Programme (PSDP), INSPIRE will engage nine public universities and establish six integrated circuit (IC) labs across the country.

The Prime Minister said the initiative reflects Pakistan’s transition to a knowledge-based digital economy, emphasizing that youth development is key to national growth. Minister for IT Shaza Khawaja reaffirmed the government’s goal to build a digitally skilled workforce, while Dr. Naveed Sherwani, Chairman of the National Semiconductor Task Force, shared the roadmap for developing local design and fabrication capabilities.

The initiative will link academia, research, and industry to strengthen Pakistan’s position in the global semiconductor ecosystem.
