Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar visited Dhaka, where Pakistan and Bangladesh signed six Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) aimed at strengthening bilateral ties. The agreements, signed alongside Bangladesh’s Adviser for Foreign Affairs Touhid Hossain, cover visa abolition for diplomats and government officials, cooperation between foreign service academies, collaboration between news agencies APP and BSS, strategic studies partnerships, a joint working group on trade, and a cultural exchange programme for 2025–2028.
Dar also met the Chief Adviser of Bangladesh, Professor Muhammad Yunus, and conveyed Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s greetings. Talks focused on reviving historical connections, boosting trade, youth linkages, and expanding regional cooperation, including South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC). Both sides also discussed pressing international issues such as Palestine and the Rohingya crisis.
The visit marks the most senior Pakistani engagement with Dhaka since 2012. Dar highlighted that relations between the two nations are rooted in centuries-old shared traditions and Islamic heritage. He also met Bangladesh’s Adviser for Commerce, Sk. Bashir Uddin, joined by Pakistan’s Commerce Minister Jam Kamal Khan, to explore ways of deepening economic cooperation.
The MoUs are expected to improve connectivity, expand trade, and promote cultural and academic exchanges, opening a new chapter in Pakistan–Bangladesh relations.
