Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) recently warned about a new WhatsApp scam circulating and it’s sneaky. Fake messages are coming from random local or international numbers posing as WhatsApp‘s official account, even with the logo.
The spam messages typically say things such as you’ve broken WhatsApp rules or request verification of your account. They tend to have suspicious links, and it might just result in your personal information being hacked or even your entire WhatsApp account being taken over. What you can do is don’t tap on suspicious links, don’t respond to them and block or report the number.
PTA reminded people that WhatsApp will never message you like this let alone from unknown numbers. These messages are meant to appear real, but they’re just tricks to play with your online security. For security purpose make sure to enable two step verification and don’t be tricked into sharing personal information.
Let’s be cautious and protect our personal information. If you notice anything concerning, report it and spread the word.
