Pakistan has proposed forming a technology alliance with the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), signaling its intent to foster deeper collaboration in the digital and technological sectors. The proposal underscores Pakistan’s strategic vision to integrate more actively with regional economies and accelerate its own digital transformation.
Minister Ahsan Iqbal Chaudhary, speaking on behalf of Pakistan’s Ministry of Planning Development and Special Initiatives, emphasized the transformative power of technology while warning of growing digital divides in developing regions. He proposed deeper ASEAN-Pakistan cooperation through academic partnerships, joint R&D in emerging tech, and inclusive solutions for climate and health. Highlighting Pakistan’s initiatives like the National AI Policy and Special Technology Zones, he called for a shift from traditional diplomacy to a tech-driven alliance. Key proposals include an ASEAN-Pakistan Tech Forum and a Startup Bridge. The aim: a smarter, greener, and more inclusive regional future.
