WhatsApp has started introducing a new feature that lets users create personalized AI chatbots directly within the app. This update is part of its latest iOS beta version 25.17.10.75, available through the TestFlight program.
With this rollout, select beta users can now design their own AI assistants inside WhatsApp, eliminating the need to use external platforms like Meta AI Studio, Instagram, or Messenger. This built-in functionality offers a more streamlined and user-friendly experience.
Much like OpenAI’s Custom GPTs, the feature allows users to customize nearly everything—from the chatbot’s name and tone to its personality and visual avatar. Suggested roles include options like travel planner, study coach, or motivational assistant. WhatsApp walks users through a step-by-step setup, offering smart suggestions and editable templates throughout the process.
Once created, the chatbot is private by default, but users can choose to share it via a link with friends or groups. This makes it useful for general assistance, entertainment, or even personal use such as journaling or managing tasks.
At present, the feature is limited to a small group of beta testers. A broader release is expected in the coming weeks, although WhatsApp has not yet announced a firm timeline.
