Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has greenlit a five-year plan to modernize public transport in the province. The initiative will introduce an Automated Rapid Transport (ART) system, featuring solar-powered buses with three coaches, each accommodating over 300 passengers. These buses will operate from smart stations equipped with fast charging, WiFi, and monitoring cameras.
The project will roll out in three phases, starting with Lahore, Faisalabad, and Gujranwala. Over time, it will expand to 30 cities, with ten cities added in each phase. Maryam Nawaz emphasized the system’s efficiency, aiming for completion within four years. The ART system is designed to occupy minimal road space while offering a sustainable and high-tech transit solution for Punjab’s growing urban population.
