The NOC by Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) will combine PTCL’s mobile arm Ufone 4G with Telenor, creating the country’s second largest mobile operator. The telecom sector continues to face rising operational costs and regulatory pressures, making consolidation a significant development for the industry. PTA said it examined the expected impact on competition and consumer interests before granting the no objection certificate.
In a statement, the authority noted the need to “safeguard consumer rights” as the integration moves forward. PTA directed both companies to maintain uninterrupted services and continue meeting all licence obligations throughout the integration process. PTCL.Official has stated that the deal will strengthen network performance, expand coverage and support more efficient operations for the combined entity.
Industry observers expect the acquisition to influence market structure in a sector that has four major operators and continues to manage high spectrum fees and significant investment demands.
