Pakistan and Vietnam have officially launched negotiations for a Preferential Trade Agreement (PTA) to deepen economic ties and boost bilateral trade. The announcement was made during the Pakistan-Vietnam Business Forum in Islamabad, co-chaired by Commerce Minister Jam Kamal Khan and Vietnam’s Industry and Trade Minister Nguyen Hong Diên.
The event gathered senior ministers, diplomats, and business leaders from both countries. Key attendees included ministers for science, communications, maritime affairs, and food security, as well as the parliamentary secretary for culture and tourism.
A major outcome was the signing of a joint statement to initiate PTA talks, with a target to conclude by the end of 2025. The agreement aims to improve market access, reduce trade barriers, and diversify exports.
Both sides also agreed to enhance connectivity through direct flights and simplified visa processes to support tourism and business travel. Discussions included cooperation in science, technology, and innovation.
Pakistan expressed solidarity with Vietnam over recent flood impacts, reinforcing mutual goodwill. The PTA is expected to strengthen regional integration and open new avenues for growth.
