Commerce Minister Jam Kamal says technology is essential for Pakistan’s competitiveness and economic future.
Federal Minister for Commerce Jam Kamal Khan delivered a powerful message at the National University of Technology (NUTECH) in Islamabad, urging Pakistan to treat technology not as an optional add-on, but as a foundational pillar for national competitiveness and economic progress. Highlighting emerging forces like artificial intelligence, data analytics, quantum computing, automation and digital platforms, the minister stressed that nations investing aggressively in engineering, research and technical skills are shaping the future global economy.
“Technology is no longer optional; it is foundational,” Kamal declared, underscoring the need for stronger industry-academia collaboration, practical skills development, startup support and innovation ecosystems that link universities with business.
He also pointed to Pakistan’s untapped mineral wealth, including copper and rare earth elements, saying strategic application of modern technology and policy reforms is critical. Kamal argued that governance reform, industrial modernisation, agricultural transformation and digital policy upgrades must move forward without delay for Pakistan to secure its place in the AI-driven global landscape.
