The Government of Pakistan has launched its High-Speed Internet and Commercial Satellite Connectivity program to enhance nationwide digital access and bridge connectivity gaps across remote regions. The initiative, inaugurated by Federal Minister Prof. Ahsan Iqbal Chaudhary at the Pakistan Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Comission (SUPARCO), is part of the Uraan Pakistan framework for digital growth.
The initiative integrates satellite based internet with fiber and 5G networks to expand coverage across all provinces, including underserved regions. It also includes the establishment of Pakistan’s first Space Center and Launch Pad to facilitate both domestic and international satellite missions.
In his remarks, Prof. Iqbal highlighted that national progress depends on mastering space technology. Over the last two years, Pakistan has launched four satellites, including hyperspectral and remote sensing systems that support agriculture, urban planning, and climate monitoring.
The government also introduced the Pakistan Space Compact, a new framework for technology licensing and digital inclusion. Plans are underway for a space mission to the International Space Station by 2026, reaffirming Pakistan’s ambition to become a key regional player in space and digital innovation.
