Pakistan and China continue to enhance their partnership in the renewable energy sector, with a strong focus on solar power. In April 2024, Pakistan’s Northern Power Generation Company Limited (NPGCL) entered into a $200 million agreement with China’s Ningbo Green Light Energy Pvt Ltd. to transform a thermal power plant in Muzaffargarh into a 300 MW solar energy facility.
These efforts support Pakistan’s broader strategy to expand renewable energy capacity and decrease dependence on conventional energy sources. This underscores developments for the deepening energy partnership between Pakistan and China, focusing on sustainable and cost-effective energy solutions.
Pakistan’s reliance on traditional energy sources has led to shortages and environmental concerns. Leading Pakistani energy firms, experienced in solar development, have partnered with Tongwei in a 650 MW solar module supply agreement, recognizing its global expertise and advanced technology. Given Pakistan’s harsh climate, Tongwei has developed specialized, durable solar solutions to meet the country’s unique energy needs.
