During joint operations in Lahore’s Eastern and South circles, the Lahore Electric Supply Company (LESCO) discovered electricity theft totalling millions of rupees.
Officials claim that the raids, which targeted locations where energy was being used through unauthorised direct connections, were carried out with the assistance of law enforcement.
Widespread illicit connections were discovered in a neighbourhood in the Eastern Circle where customers were also revealed to be defaulters of about Rs12.2 million. Authorities had to remove two 200kVA transformers and cut off the area’s power supply because the situation continued despite earlier warnings.
A facility in Nishtar Colony was discovered to be using unauthorised connections in a different operation in the South Circle. After seizing a 100kVA transformer, cables, and three meters, officials filed a complaint against the customer and charged them for 170,000 units of power.
According to preliminary estimates, these operations have resulted in losses of more than Rs12 million. Operations against electricity theft will continue, according to the authorities, who emphasised the need for severe punishment for infractions.
