KP explores electric bike manufacturing and heli-tourism as part of sustainable development plans under ADP 2026-27.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Mohammad Sohail Afridi has directed relevant departments to assess the feasibility of establishing an electric bike and scooter manufacturing industry in the province as part of its sustainable development agenda.
The directive was issued during a high-level meeting of the planning and development department in Peshawar to review initiatives proposed for the Annual Development Programme (ADP) 2026-27.
The meeting also focused on tourism, with the chief minister ordering a structured assessment of heli-tourism to unlock high-value tourism potential in remote and scenic regions. Officials reviewed proposals related to new tourism destinations, restoration of historic railway stations, conservation of archaeological sites and promotion of adventure tourism.
Afridi emphasised that equitable distribution of development benefits across all regions remains a core responsibility of the government, describing the upcoming ADP as a strategic opportunity for socio-economic transformation.
Additional proposals discussed included expansion of rescue services at tehsil level, digitisation of the province’s Socio Economic Registry by December, expansion of social welfare centres, scholarships for children with special needs, and new sports facilities.
Transport sector initiatives included electric scooters for working women and students, double-decker electric buses for tourism, and expansion of the Peshawar Bus Rapid Transit network to Charsadda, Nowshera and Khyber.
