FWO developing free M-Tag chip for motorcycles to improve vehicle monitoring and security, while Islamabad expands taxi and bike registration system.
The Frontier Works Organisation (FWO) is developing a new M-Tag chip for motorcycles that will be distributed free of cost to motorists as part of efforts to enhance vehicle monitoring and security.
Speaking to the media at Parliament, Deputy Commissioner Irfan Nawaz Memon said the development of the chip is currently underway and will be provided to motorcycle owners once completed.
According to FWO officials, the M-Tag installed on a motorcycle becomes ineffective if removed, preventing its reuse on another vehicle. The system is designed with several built-in security features to reduce misuse and improve traceability.
Authorities also noted that if a motorcycle fitted with the tag is stolen, the owner can report the incident through a designated helpline, allowing the tag to be immediately blocked. In such cases, a replacement tag will be installed free of cost.
Meanwhile, authorities are also advancing the online registration process for taxis operating in the federal capital. Officials said more than 19,000 taxis and bikes have already been registered under the initiative.
Under the new system, drivers are required to record rider identities, pickup locations and drop-off points, aligning with security practices commonly used in other countries.
