Led by Hedge Fund manager Gentry Beach, a group of American investors landed in Pakistan this week to look at opportunities in mining, energy, infrastructure, and tech. Over the two-day visit, mostly in Islamabad, several meetings between officials were held.
Khurram Schehzad, an adviser at the Finance Ministry, said this visit could strengthen ties between Pakistan and the U.S. calling their interest “important” for Pakistan’s economy. Beach, for his part, mentioned how American tech could help boost sectors like oil and gas. Both sides agreed investment would be good.
Schehzad also pointed out that Pakistan’s economy was showing signs of recovery. Inflation was dropping, interest rates were stabilizing, and foreign reserves were up. He said investors look for reforms, and Pakistan was making changes. That, he noted, is what attracts sharp investors.
The visit comes as Pakistan, still recovering from last year’s economic crisis, looks for foreign investment. The country nearly defaulted in 2023 before securing an IMF bailout. Since then, things have improved, but more capital is needed.
