In a major boost to Pakistan’s IT and communications industry, Amazon‘s Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellite network, Amazon Project Kuiper, is set to launch satellite broadband services in Pakistan by the end of 2026. This was revealed after Federal Minister for IT and Telecommunication Shaza Khawaja met a delegation from Amazon’s Project Kuiper.
Project Kuiper, a multi-billion-dollar global project, is aimed at offering fast, trusted, and affordable internet to the world, especially to remote communities. Welcoming the project, Shaza Fatima labelled the project as a significant step towards digital inclusion in accordance with the vision of the government for a “Digital Nation Pakistan” where every citizen has access to secure and affordable internet connectivity.
The Kuiper team also present some plans to set up ground infrastructure in Pakistan, including gateways and points of presence (PoPs), for smooth integration into the local digital environment. With a planned constellation of over 3,200 satellites, Project Kuiper will provide broadband speeds of up to 400 Mbps through affordable terminals. The collaboration is set to improve Pakistan’s information technology industry, encourage innovation, and bridge the digital gap in the country.
