Pakistan has officially joined the global AI landscape through the launch of the AAAI Pakistan Chapter. Founded in 1958, Association for the Advancement of Artificial Intelligence (AAAI)’s expansion into the country was marked by a high-profile event in Karachi attended by over 200 professors, executives, and dignitaries. The initiative was chaired by Muhammad Tahir, the newly appointed chair of AAAI Pakistan, who called it a formal entry of Pakistan into the global AI ecosystem.
Through this affiliation, Pakistan gains access to over 15,000 AI research papers, global academic partnerships, startup funding, hackathons, and the potential to host the AAAI Regional Conference. The event was endorsed by leading figures such as doctor Yasar Ayaz, Chairman of National Center of Artificial Intelligence – NCAI, Pakistan, who called the move a game-changer for Pakistan’s AI future.
The ceremony featured an AI-generated video message from Jack McCarthy, the late founder of AAAI, symbolizing the historic nature of the launch. Jibran Jamshad, Regional Director at Microsoft, said AAAI’s global presence has powered innovations like ChatGPT and would now help integrate Pakistani talent into the worldwide AI narrative.
The official AAAI Pakistan website will go live on August 14, 2025. With backing from military, academia, and industry, the chapter is expected to bring over $200 million in economic impact and drive innovation in education and tech.
