FonGreen Silicon Technologies (FoST), the official zone developer of the Foundation Renewable & Technology Zone (FRTZ) in Karachi, Sindh, has partnered with Wateen Telecom to deploy advanced connectivity and security infrastructure at the zone. Under the agreement, Wateen will design and deploy a Gigabit Passive Optical Network (GPON) and provide an AI-powered CCTV and Vision Analytics solution, alongside round-the-clock monitoring, maintenance, and technical support.
Wateen Telecom is set to provide digital connectivity and intelligent security infrastructure for the Foundation Renewable & Technology Zone (FRTZ) in Karachi under a new partnership with FonGreen Silicon Technologies (FoST).
The agreement positions Wateen as a technology infrastructure partner for FRTZ, which FoST is developing as a specialized industrial zone focused on renewable energy manufacturing and emerging technologies. The collaboration will cover both high-speed fiber connectivity and AI-assisted security systems across the development.
A key component of the partnership is the deployment of a Gigabit Passive Optical Network (GPON). Wateen will take responsibility for the network’s design and deployment, as well as its subsequent operation and maintenance. The fiber-based system is expected to provide connectivity for businesses and other activities operating within the technology and renewable energy hub.
The telecom company will also establish an integrated surveillance setup at FoST’s premises. The project involves supplying and installing CCTV infrastructure alongside AI Vision Analytics capabilities, with Wateen responsible for integrating and commissioning the complete solution.
Unlike a one-time infrastructure deployment, the agreement includes ongoing operational support. Wateen will provide 24-hour monitoring, maintenance, and technical assistance throughout the partnership, covering the connectivity and surveillance infrastructure as FRTZ expands.
At the signing ceremony, FoST’s CEO and Managing Director said the technology zone is being developed around a vision of creating an environment where renewable energy and emerging technologies can progress from development activities into established industries. The official noted that reliable connectivity and intelligent security would form part of the infrastructure supporting companies operating at the zone.
Wateen CEO Adil Rashid described FRTZ as a reflection of growing confidence in Pakistan’s renewable energy and technology potential. He pointed to Wateen’s experience in connectivity and AI-based solutions as key areas through which the company would contribute to the project.
The partnership comes as FoST works to develop FRTZ into a dedicated hub for renewable energy manufacturing and technology-related industries, with Wateen’s infrastructure expected to support the zone’s digital and security requirements.
