Punjab has begun digital disbursements under the CM Punjab Rahmat Card, with JazzCash delivering aid to selected widows and orphans after a computerized ballot
Punjab has moved the CM Rahmat Card from selection to payment, as JazzCash begins digital disbursements to widows and orphans across the province. The rollout follows the computerized ballot held on June 23 and signals the scheme’s next phase.
According to the Punjab Information Technology Board, the initiative is designed to digitize the full welfare cycle, from online applications and eligibility checks to transparent selection and fund transfer. Officials called it one of Punjab’s most advanced social welfare systems, built to replace manual processing with automated workflows.
At the ballot ceremony, Special Assistant to the Chief Minister Rashid Iqbal Nasrullah praised the technology team for staying on schedule. He thanked PITB for “continuous technical support” throughout implementation, while also acknowledging chairman Faisal Yousaf’s guidance.
Secretary for Zakat and Ushr Irfan Ahmad Sandhu also commended PITB for designing and operationalising the digital ecosystem under tight deadlines. Participants said this was the department’s first welfare programme of this scale backed by such a layered technology setup.
The system now includes an online citizen portal, Android app, helpline, beneficiary management tools, and a verification engine linked to NADRA and the Punjab Socio-Economic Registry. Applications are checked digitally, quotas are applied district-wise, and final beneficiaries are picked through a computerized ballot before JazzCash transfers the money.
Officials say the model is meant to boost transparency, speed and accountability in welfare delivery. For Punjab’s most vulnerable households, the bigger shift is simple: aid that once moved slowly through paperwork is now reaching wallets through a digital trail.
