Pakistan Railways aims to attract private investment to modernise operations, improve efficiency, and expand commercial opportunities.
Pakistan Railways is seeking to expand private sector participation as part of efforts to modernise its operations and improve financial sustainability.
Hanif Abbasi, Federal Minister for Railways, outlined the government’s approach during a meeting with Mian Muhammad Mansha, Chairperson of Nishat Group, at the railway headquarters in Lahore.
The minister said the organisation is adopting international best practices in public-private collaboration to enhance operational efficiency and create investment opportunities across infrastructure, freight services, and commercial ventures. These measures are intended to strengthen revenue generation while contributing to broader economic growth.
During the visit, Mansha was briefed on new facilities, including a monitoring centre and a Business Facilitation Centre designed to engage the private sector. He expressed support for the initiative and indicated interest in exploring investment opportunities.
Separately, the minister directed the outsourcing of commercial operations for Awan Express, Allama Iqbal Express, and Sukkur Express by June 30 to improve passenger services and increase revenue.
Additional measures include upgrading station facilities, outsourcing cleanliness services, and installing CCTV systems on major trains to enhance passenger safety and operational oversight.
